    Technology Website Design
WHY: As our technology client’s business spread globally, a new and engaging first point of contact was needed. This had to excite and entice new customers, whilst keeping it simple enough that non-technical senior management could understand our client’s offerings.

WHAT: We created a completely new website as the existing one had not been updated for many years. The existing site was cluttered, being aimed mainly at engineers and technicians, but the new site talks to both senior management (who have the financial control), as well as the existing engineers.

HOW: Using existing technical documents for the products and services, Under the Rooftops created simple yet thorough copy to use across the website. We also created a new contemporary logo and branding for the company. We then designed and built a dynamic website around the new branding and the newly formed copy, creating a significant amount of visuals and graphics to help appeal to a broad and also limited English speaking audience.

For the 6 months before the new website was launched compared to the 6 months after (usage statistics reported by Webalizer):
Hits: up 267%, Visits: up 394%, Pages: up 438%

WHY: To explain the detailed operation and potential uses of our client’s premium radio technology product to senior management.

WHAT: As part of creating a new website, we produced a high level explainer video that would speak directly to non technical senior management explaining what this technical product does and how it can be used in multiple ways.

HOW: As the product is a small non-descript box of electronics, and the user interface is a computer screen, we opted to use mainly animations for the majority of the explanation, working closely with our client to ensure they liked the styling etc. But we also weaved vibrant and exciting stock footage of relevant real world scenarios into the video in order to create a punchy significance to the real power of this product.

WHY: Following a European wide re-organisation, the leaders of the new organisation were finding it hard to engage their newly formed teams around a common purpose and set of goals as well as developing their new ways of wiring (working) together.

WHAT: We developed a consistent strategic story with common inputs and outcomes to share across all functions and markets. Leaders created a personal flavour to their story to include their own experiences and added local examples to target specific geographical needs.

HOW: We worked with the HR Director and her business partners across the new organisation to create a highly visual, clear, concise storytelling framework to be used by the leaders and then supported the leaders in developing their own stories to use at their events, touching over 400 people in a 3 month timeframe.

WHY: The client, a Japanese technology brand leader and well know within the industry, wanted to increase their profile to the wider business world.

WHAT: The client had acquired a business showcase slot on CNN and therefore required a 4 ½ minute infomercial for this – explaining and promoting all aspects of their business to the layperson. They also required a more standard 30 second version that could be used elsewhere in the future.

HOW: As director, Freddy shaped the content to be as direct and informative as possible, whilst still covering all the areas of the company’s history, performance and technical achievements, cultural role and other areas as required by the client. Within the constraints that existed he shot at their production facilities and produced an exceptionally well-received infomercial for the company.

WHY: The launch of a debut album by an up and coming band.

WHAT: We created the full album sleeve, including photography, design, layout and typeset.

HOW: We discussed themes with the band to agree a desired style, and then directed the photo shoot accordingly. Significant image manipulation was needed as the cover shot chosen by the band was actually a mirror reflection so wording had to be corrected. Layout was created to fit the exact print template.

WHY: Our client had an existing series of time-lapse videos showing the laying of their product, a resin floor. The videos were of varying quality and had technical issues with them, but we were asked if there was any way of salvaging something.

WHAT: We created a short promotional video that extols the benefits of resin floors. It has been used both on the web and at live events.

HOW: Firstly we cleaned up and standardised the existing footage. We then sprinkled a large amount of our film making magic into the edit suite and hey presto!! (Come on we’re not giving all our secrets away here…)

WHY: A think tank breakfast event on corporate learning wanted a physical point of focus and agenda for each of the guests.

WHAT: We created a themed ‘menu’ placemat, as it was a ‘sit down breakfast’ event. Included on the placemat was the full agenda of the event and also other required information, all wrapped up in an item that guests could then fold up and take away with them.

HOW: We worked with the client to agree the required content, and then edited the provided wording to a realistic size for the limited space on the placemat. We created a highly graphical, yet still clear and concise design which showed the order of events – all themed as if it were a ‘diner style menu’. We also designed a simple reverse corporate identity side, which the client loved so much it has now become their generic one.

WHY: The client wanted to maximise their web based reach to existing and new clients.

WHAT: We designed a series of short web videos that explained the company’s core business to potential new customers. He also devised a series of short web videos promoting existing products, which were emailed to existing customers.

HOW: Following detailed meetings with the client we agreed on the best format to engage their customers – mainly web based video. We then agreed on the format and number of videos. After research on our client, it’s ethos and it’s products we scripted the videos and then shot them in studio with their featured celebrity. The client was exceptionally happy with the resulting videos that tied in perfectly with their existing marketing campaign.

WHY: Our client wanted to create a full online presence in order to provide details of an expanding portfolio of horses for sale. Existing online stud websites are very static and our client wanted to create something dynamic that would take the industry by storm.

WHAT: Under the Rooftops provided a company rebrand, a new website design and build, and full social media platforms.

HOW: Working closely with our client we styled and designed a very large and complex website (approx 100 pages) incorporating full mobile and tablet functionality, as that is the method most potential visitors would view the site. We created the site so that our client can regularly update information such as race results, breeder’s notes, stud news and update images by themselves, and coached the client to be able to achieve this.

We also created and branded Google, YouTube, and Facebook social media presence for our client, ensuring branding was consistent across all.

What people think of us...

"Updating our website and producing a product explainer video sounds very straightforward and my inbox is full of marketing emails from companies, UK and offshore, that say they can do that. However when I started talking to Fred at Under The Rooftops it became clear that I was not comparing like with like… Under The Rooftops have experience and knowledge and understanding and creativity that put them into a whole different league. It is no over-statement to say that you know you are working with a genius like Fred when he keeps on coming up with quality ideas and you just stand back and think ‘that is great, why didn’t I think of that?’.

What initially attracted me to using Under the Rooftops was Fred’s TV experience of explaining complex technical issues in simple terms – very relevant to my business. During the work, what impressed me most of all was his ability to be equally at home with the big idea and strategy – and then seamlessly switch to dealing with the detail and understanding the practical issues of filming and creating the animation – all under one roof without needing to use specialist sub-contractors.

The results are clear: for the 6 months before the web site was updated compared to the 6 months after (usage statistics reported by Webalizer): Hits: up 267%, Visits: up 394%, Pages: up 438%, showing that more visitors found the website and then viewed more pages and came back to view again more times."

"We had a lot of old and unusable footage that we wanted to make the most of, and Under the Rooftops managed to turn it into a beautiful presentation. The final product is more than we could have hoped for and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services. Excellent in terms of both the product and customer service."

"Fred at Under The Rooftops produced exactly what we wanted for our album sleeve, developing the project from our outline idea. He directed and shot the photography, and created the layout to the specified template. He was great to work with – happy to take our initial directions and then suggest his own ideas and improvements. We were all delighted with the finished product."

Julian Marshall, Hanks Cafe
